Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representative Applications

Tuesday, August 5, 2025

The U.S. District Court for the District of Montana is accepting applications to serve as a lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference.  This volunteer position is open to any member in good standing of the bar of the U.S. District Court for Montana.  The chosen applicant will serve a three-year term, from October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2028, alongside three other lawyer representatives.  Because the minimum geographical representation requirements are satisfied by the existing group of lawyer representatives, this vacancy may be filled by an attorney located in any division of the District of Montana.  The full selection criteria are set forth in Standing Order DLC-35.

The duties of the District of Montana’s lawyer representatives include:

  • Attendance at periodic Ninth Circuit meetings

  • Coordinating fundraising for prize money for winning Montana entrants in the Ninth Circuit High School Civics Contest

  • Scoring essay and video entries for the Civics Contest

  • Assisting with the planning and presentation of the Montana Judicial Institute (three-day continuing education course for high school civics teachers)

  • Attending the Montana District Conference (typically held in September/October)

Lawyer representatives are reimbursed for all travel costs associated with their service, up to the maximum amounts applicable to judiciary employees under federal judiciary travel regulations.
